FEEDBACK FROM OUR GUESTS
Holmes (Dust Devil, 10 – 12 October)
Kunene Conservancy Safaris - this was a highlight for me! The set up with the driver and the support crew was amazing and they provided us with 2 great camping spots - one at the river bed in Purros and the other close to the Hoanib river bed - amazing. An experience not to be missed - our guide Boas had so much insider knowledge which he passed on. His sister Sonya and Dirk were an excellent back up team and the food and comfort were great.

"Etambura lodge is a great place in a fantastic location with breathtaking views and a fabulous architectural design. Landscape in Kunene was very impressive and seeing game in that set-up was brilliant. Particularly loved the rhino tracking. Also, getting insights into how the local communities live and conservancies work was very informative and interesting.
Catered camping was excellently organised and very comfortable. Staff was brilliant. Due to long distances and poor roads a lot of time is spend in the car - don't know whether it would be possible to minimize this by replacing some of the game viewing by car with walks?"

"A huge thank you for a wonderful trip up into the Kunene region of Namibia and introducing us to the wonderful landscapes, stunning wildlife and different communities up in the north of Namibia."

I can’t tell you how much we appreciate your guiding hand in our African sojourn. Everything you said was spot on. The mixture of campsites and lodges was just right. I think the Kunene Conservancy Safari with Russell, Felix and Kaku was the highlight of the trip. Thanks so much for putting that in. It seems we were in Namibia and Botswana at a pretty extraordinary time. We didn’t actually experience a lot of rain but the effects of earlier rains were quite evident. We had been hearing that game viewing was more difficult because of a longer rainy season. Not knowing any different we were excited with our game viewings at Sesriem and Brandberg Mountain though. When we met up with Russell somewhat later the true scope of what was happening was revealed. His enthusiasm concerning the lush growth on a desert landscape was infectious. Just looking out over Damaraland, a place we had never seen, became the African experience we had hoped to find.

This was the highlight of our trip to Namibia. Boaz, our guide and driver could not have been more helpful, well informed and fun to be with. Best of all he and his sister Sonia (the camp cook) were so enthusiastic and entertaining that we had a truly memorable time. We would have no hesitation in recommending this trip to everyone.

I had a brilliant trip.... Flip is a the most inspiring and interesting person that I have met in years.....He has an abundance of knowledge and his enthusiasm & love for the Namibian Desert Lions makes it a privilege to spend time with him.
Russell and Felix were great guides and they both are dedicated to preserving the long term sustainability of the Kunene region. Their tour company,
"Kunene Conservancy Safaris" understands the importance of mutual co- existence between the people of the Kunene region and the wildlife. They are a tour company who are determined to ensure that the local community benefits from tourism and this in itself was a great reason to have used their company.
I have twice spent over a week traveling through the Kunene region in my own vehicle and on both occasions I was unable to find any desert lions. On this guided trip with Flip, Russell and Felix, I was fortunate to have had unbelievable Desert Lion interactions... The 1st day and night, Flip spotted a magnificent 7-8 year old male lion. Flip darted the lion, branded him, collared him, took blood tests and measured him. This Majestic lion has been named ROSH and hopefully he will take over from the two lions, Adolf and Leonardo who were sadly shot. May ROSH be the father of a whole new generation of desert lions....
The next night, Flip tracked Bianca, a powerful and mature lioness who he has been studying for years. Bianca who had been unaccounted for, for 29 days, was darted and her faulty collar was replaced.
The desert landscape in the Kunene region is breath taking, the desert sunrises and sunsets are magical as shades of pastel colours stretched across the sky. The mountain zebra, oryx, giraffe and springbok were a daily treat...
The chef prepared mouth watering daily meals and the million of stars at night were like sparkling diamonds in the African sky....
The evenings around a crackling log fire were the perfect way to connect and the Desert night sounds were music for my soul....Especially as the earth shattering roar of a free roaming Desert Lion echoing across the mountains....
The morning mist that slowly crept in from the Atlantic ocean is mystical and magical.
I left the Kunene region with Felix, via the Hoanib river. In the dry river bed, we were blessed to watch a herd of breading Desert Elephants, with two newly born elies in the herd. This was an excellent way to end off the trip.
The Kune is this truly a magnificent part of Namibia, infact its an unbelievably special wilderness .......
This is one of the best trips that I have ever experienced. It was worth every cent....
Thank you for arranging it. I will always cherish this life long experience.

To the KCS Team,
I wanted to write and thank you personally for the fantastic trip you recently hosted to the beautiful Kunene Region of Namibia.
I have been involved in the travel industry for many years and have been fortunate enough to enjoy several famil trips during that time. But the KCS concept is different, created by people who genuinely care about the local people and wildlife and the sustainable future of this stunning area.
There is a great team behind KCS and everyone plays an important part in its success but I must single out both Tommy and Russell for huge praise. During the long journeys there was plenty of time to listen to their fascinating stories and I learnt a huge amount from them both.
I admire the concept you have created and I wish you every success. I also very much look forward to working with you and selling a product that I whole-heartedly believe in.
Kind regards
Sarah Williams

There are not enough superlatives to describe our adventures of the last two weeks - awesome and varied landscapes, magnificent animals and a fascinating introduction to the Himba and Herero people.
It was an honour to be guests of the Himba people and to begin to understand their culture and way of life. All this was made even more special because of the enthusiasm and knowledge of Russell and Tommy, and the excellent support of a superb back-up team who provided fabulous cuisine at each of the incredible camp sites.
All in all a truly life changing experience and the best holiday we have ever had. Thank you to all at KCS.

We had heard great things about Namibia long before our arrival, but as ever nothing can prepare you for the reality of a first visit. The extraordinary diversity of landscape, flora and fauna. The mountain ranges at times geometric with perfect cones adjacent to table tops, in colours ranging from gold, deep red to blue and purple. The stunning campsites - at the Hoanib River on high ground, with our back to the hills we were thrilled to find a lion print only 300 metres from our camp in our tyre tracks from the previous evening. At the Ganamub 'rock camp' the tents and kitchen set under huge boulders and the dining area looking out between two others creating a huge moving tableau.
The back-up crew Nadine, Sonja, Katina and Boas were ever smiling and produced fabulous varied cuisine (including the best carrot cake of all time) from a bush kitchen.
And most importantly Russell and Tommy with their conservation backgrounds shared their knowledge of wildlife and tribal tradition and culture to give us a unique insight into this extraordinary country.
Thanks to all at KCS and good luck for the future and particularly to Anders and Agneta for encouraging us to come.

All I knew about Namibia was the photographs of sand dunes from the tourist brochures. Researching a bit further I found most of the information focused on Welwitchias - and this fixed my concept as empty desert. Then Agneta and Anders introduced other ideas but I did not really take it on board. I have been astounded, confused and ultimately delighted and entranced by this wonderful country and its people. The constantly changing scenery, the incredible colours and amazingly resilient plants, animals and people. What has truly impressed me is the pure, untainted life dedication of all the KCS team, their breadth of knowledge, peppered with historical stories, amusing anecdotes and wonderful insights into all the aspects of Namibia.
It is a land of sharp contrasts, from the garnet and agate strewn sands, to the rich colours of the river courses, the huge boulders in Ganamub Camp, the delicacy of the jewellery and intricacy of traditional women's dress.
There is too much to put down here but we will be back, with KCS, to revisit places we have seen and continue to explore.
A huge thank-you to everyone at KCS for delicious food, entertaining company and enormous fun all along the route. Tania & Philip Prettejohn
